SYNTAX IN OLD ENGLISH. COMPOUND AND COMPLEX SENTENCES.

In this article I tried to give some information about syntax in old English and its history, compound and complex sentences in old English and  old English vocabulary.  Old English was a highly synthetic language.  It had a well-developed system of grammatical forms, which indicate the connection between words. It was originally a spoken language; therefore the written forms of the language resembled oral speech – unless the texts were literal translations from Latin. Consequently, the syntax of  the sentence was relatively simple. Coordination of clauses prevailed over subordination and complicated syntactical structures were rare.

THE ROLE OF COMMUNICATIVE LANGUAGE TEACHING (CLT) IN ENHANCING SPEAKING COMPETENCE

Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) has emerged as one of the most influential approaches in language education, emphasizing interaction and communication as the core of learning. In a global context where English proficiency is increasingly essential, speaking competence has become a key focus in language classrooms. However, traditional methods of language teaching, which often prioritize grammar and written skills, may not effectively develop students’ speaking abilities. CLT shifts this focus by encouraging real-life communication and active student participation, making it a promising strategy for enhancing speaking skills. This thesis explores the role of CLT in improving students’ speaking competence, particularly in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) settings. By investigating how CLT impacts learners' fluency, confidence, and overall communicative abilities, the study aims to highlight the potential of this approach in developing competent English speakers and its implications for modern language teaching practices.

NEGATION IN DISCOURSE AND COMMUNICATION: FUNCTIONAL, PRAGMATIC, AND CONTEXTUAL DIMENSIONS

This article examines the functional, pragmatic, and contextual aspects of negation in English and Uzbek discourse. Negation is not only a grammatical operation but also a discourse strategy used to express stance, politeness, disagreement, irony, and emotional tone. The study analyzes how negation contributes to communicative intent and meaning construction within real discourse, considering the influence of linguistic typology, context, and speaker intention. Data from spoken and written texts illustrate that while English relies heavily on syntactic markers such as not, no, and negative auxiliaries, Uzbek employs morphological affixes like -ma/-me and prosodic cues to shape communicative effect. The findings highlight that negation functions as a powerful pragmatic tool, serving not only to deny propositions but also to construct interpersonal relations and discourse coherence.
